Brainfood for R.E.A.L Financial Professionals

The final CFP exam testing window for 2024 if now over.

If you sat for the exam and passed...congratulations.

If you sat for the exam and didn't...I'm sorry.

I realize in either case, there was tremendous sacrifice that went into the process and the difference between elation and disappointment, could have come down to just a couple of questions.

Here's my advice to you (which I've given to dozen of candidates for years now)...

This exam is not the only way to be a financial professional.

In many ways, passing or failing can begin to define you as a professional.

Don't let it.

You are already (and can be) much more than that.

If this is something you want to accomplish, make a commitment to yourself (right now) to make some changes (or create space) for you to be successful.

Maybe you need a break.

Maybe you need a different study plan or environment.

You are the expert on you, so do what you believe to be best.

No matter what you decide, you have my full support!

It's Sabbatical Time...

Next month, I'll be taking a much needed break away from my desk.

My annual sabbatical is something I began last year and there were so many benefits from having that mental and physical reset.

The question I've been asked most is:

"Dom, what do you do on your sabbatical?"

In a word...think.

Dom thinking

I'm not at work, but I'm not absolutely on vacation either.

For me, during a typical work week there's this ongoing task list that seems never to be accomplished and items are constantly deferred.

I rarely have time to take any one of those items individually and contemplate its usefulness for goals I have. Maybe it seemed useful in the moment but having put it off for so long, that purpose is now questioned.

One of the things I'm able to do during my sabbatical is evaluate the significance of those "constantly deferred" items against my long term goals.

If they don't align with those goals, then I can make a decision to remove them from my list.

I typically come back from these times with a much sharper focus and intensity on the direction I want to move in.

If any of this resonates, you might check out this article I wrote about my last sabbatical experience.

My most popular post...

LinkedIn Post

I rarely make posts on LinkedIn to attract prospects to my RIA (DJH Capital Management), but I did last month, and it ended up being my most popular post.

(It just goes to show you, that if you're not on LinkedIn creating content for your ideal client, you're missing out!)

I won't go into what I talked about in the post here, just click the image to find out.

Here's why I think you should keep reading though...

So you can learn how to become a real financial advisor and avoid being a fake one!

Yes. I said it.

I'm launching a program in January that will train and equip you with all the tools I've learned over a 25 year career in financial services.

The goal?

Help you advance up the financial services "career ladder" in half the time!

That's right. Half the time.

I'm going to teach you all the "non-technical" stuff (and some technical stuff too) that RIA owners are telling me they want to see in their candidates!

PLUS, at the end of the program you'll have the opportunity to work with me 1:1 inside my firm (which will give you CFP hours!)

(I'm also currently working on a partnership with a major CFP education provider to offer you a discount so you can start your CFP journey if you haven't already.)

I've only opened up 10 spots for this "founding cohort" of future superstars, and I'm holding a 1-day workshop to give you preview of the program.

Dom's Coaching Corner: "Becoming a Master"

The purpose of learning is mastery.

What stands in the way of mastery?

Ignorance. Or the absence of truth.

Think about this...

Anything you do well now (tie your shoes, ride a bike, walk and chew gum simultaenously) required you constantly messing it up first.

The messing up was because you hadn't learned what needed to be done.

But now you do it effortlessly. Without any conscious effort. You've become a master.

Here are the stages we all must trek through to be come masters...

↳IGNORANCE > the absence of truth (you don't know what you don't know)

↳KNOWLEDGE > the accumulation of truth (you learn the whats, but don't know what to do with what you know)

↳UNDERSTANDING >the assimilation of truth (you learn the hows and whys so you know the reason for something)

↳WISDOM (or MASTERY) >the application of truth (you how to synthesize solutions based on your knowledge and understanding of something)

So remember, the purpose of [all] learning is mastery.

Check out this coaching clip.

P.S. This is the type of coaching you will get as a member of this group.
