Brainfood for R.E.A.L Financial Professionals

I've been asked by a lot of CFP candidates this question:

How well does the CFP exam prepare me for dealing with clients?

Here's the element of the entire curriculum I feel needs a lot more work.

As of today, the Principle Knowledge Topics only include 7% in the domain of "testable" material.

cfp knowledge topics

What I've discovered as a practitioner though is that 100% of your days will be filled with "dealing with clients".

Dealing with client requests.

Dealing with client portfolios.

Dealing with client children.

Dealing with client parents.

Dealing with client careers.

See what I mean?

So what I can confidently assert after 25 years in financial services is the following:

Even if the exam were comprised of 100% questions on client behavior, you still wouldn't be prepared for every scenario your career will present.

So despite what you may have been told, I maintain the best way for you to learn is to become an apprentice of someone that knows the way.

So that being said, if you're looking for mentorship, check this out 👉🏽 CLICK HERE.

In the meantime, I've created a playlist for you watch (and receive encouragement from)!

I'm Back...

Yesterday, I returned from a 2-week vacation in Costa Rica as a part of my month long annual sabbatical.

It was a great time to unwind and recharge.

Costa Rica

I feel blessed (and grateful).

I never thought that my work (of essentially) helping others reach their financial goals would provide me with the means to do some of the things that I want to do.

One of those things is stepping away from "work" for a month to rest.

If there were one lesson, I'd want to share with anyone looking at my life now, it would be:

Learn to rest.

I'm in pretty good shape (physically and mentally), but some time ago, I experienced a season of severe panic attacks from stress and emotional exhaustion.

At the time, I had no boundaries to keep me from overloading myself.

I don't recommend you wait until you get there before you learn to prioritize rest and self-care.

There is nothing worth sacrificing your emotional health over.

If you'd like for me to share with you my self-care routine, let me know by sending an email with "SELF-CARE" in the subject line.

My most popular post...

LinkedIn Post

Anyone that knows me, knows that I love my family.

I made this post about my son who is currently serving in South Korea in the Armed Forces.

In essence, I think this post resonated with people because it emphasized how important we think "being in control" is.

If you believe that "being in control" will help you make your next step or achieve your next goal faster.

Think again. It won't.

Primarily because, "being in control" is a false notion.

Here's what I've discovered about control while raising my children:

  1. I have no control over others' actions, only my reactions to those actions.

  2. I have control over my decision to accept or reject my present circumstances.

  3. I have no control over events happening in the future or that have happened in the past.

  4. I have control over how I interpret events and how I give meaning to them.

Consider this...

It takes most aspiring financial professionals 3 years to achieve a lead advisor role at a firm.

What if you could learn those skills in half the time?

What if you could control that?

Today is the last day for you to join the Advisor Growth Accelerator which will help you learn the skills to become an elite advisor in half the time.

Dom's Coaching Corner: "Your Greatest Superpower..."

The purpose of perspective is gaining a full view of what lies ahead.

Having an obstructed view or incomplete picture will cost you time and money.

On the other hand...

Just a glimpse of a complete picture will ignite your greatest superpower...

Anticipation.

Think of if this way...

What you see with your eyes,

Forms a picture in your mind, which

Produces a feeling in your heart, which

Causes a reaction with your hands.

Here's the proof.

Let's say you don't know how to ride a bike.

But one day you see a smiling kid happily riding a bicycle down the street near your home. (i.e. what you see with your eyes).

You imagine what it would be like for you to be happily riding a bike around. (i.e. forms a picture in your mind).

You want to learn to ride a bike (i.e. produces a feeling in your heart).

So finally, you ask your parents to buy a bike. (i.e. causes a reaction with your hands)

Here's my question to you...

What will you use your greatest superpower to create for yourself and others?

Check out this coaching clip explaining this concept even further.

P.S. This is the type of coaching you will get as a member of this group.
